Our biggest project yet...the full-sized loft bed

This was C's BIG Christmas present this year. It is ENORMOUS!!! Way bigger than I imagined when I was measuring the room to get the correct dimensions. But once we made all the cuts, it only took us 3 days to get the thing put together and up in C's room. It has not been finished yet and its so big that I think its going to get finished in place using a low VOC stain and poly because I am NOT going to try to take this sucker apart and haul it all back outside again.
So...let the photo journal begin.

Me making the first cuts on the bed.

C helping daddy make a couple of cuts too.

Sanding my life away. Even with sanding in shifts, taking turns, it still felt like it took FOREVER!

Now keep in mind that at the same time we were building this bed, we were also painting his room to go with his new bed set.

Here's the before shots of his bedroom paint job. It was time to make it into a boys room.

We also had to do a couple coats of paint on the ceiling because the original owner of the house was a smoker. SO MUCH BETTER!

After priming the walls, C was posing with his new pillow sham so we could make sure it was a good match before I finished up painting the walls.

The beginnings of bed assembly.

Oops...my bad.

Putting the mattress on the bed...There was a bit of excess room around the sides but I wanted it that way to make it easier to make the bed and tuck the comforter down around the edges.

J attaching the ladder onto the bed. (As a sidenote, I cannot wait to build him a nice closet system. I already have it planned out too.)

C and his cousin trying out the new bed...and LOVING it!

I'll post a final product shot later once I clean out from under the bed and get his room arranged.

  1. Sanding is a B! Hate it so much! I am dying over the blind string ;) Totally something I would do!

Love the colours and the sheets, can't wait to see it all complete, well done!

  2. Yeah...I didn't even notice the blind string until hubby had mostly assembled the bed and was like..."Honey, why did you do this?" I couldn't stop laughing. At least the trim is easy to pull out a bit so it was a 2 second fix...but it was still super funny.
